About NISS

Welcome to the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), a beacon of excellence in the pursuit of knowledge and capacity building in security studies. Established in 1999 and elevated to its current status as contained in the National Institute for Security Studies Establishment Act, 2019, NISS is a premier institution dedicated to empowering individuals with the skills, knowledge, and innovative thinking required to address the complex and dynamic security challenges facing our nation and the rest of the world.

Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC)

The Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) is the flagship programme of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), it runs for a period of ten (10) months. The course, which is fully residential, accommodates all participants within the premises of the Institute. The Institute provides each participant with a well-furnished accommodation comprising a bedroom and kitchenette. Upon completion of this flagship programme, participants are inducted and awarded the Certificate of Fellow of the Security Institute” (fsi). Participants who meet the criteria and are interested in further studies proceed to the post-graduate school of the Institute for a period of three (3) months for the acquisition of Masters’ of Arts Degree (MA) in Peace and Security Studies.

Post Graduate School (PGD)

Our Post-Graduate Programme is open to candidates with a first degree in any field with a minimum of second class (Lower Division). We offer Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Peace and Security Studies (SSS), Peace and Development Studies (PDS); and a Doctorate Degree Programme in Peace and Development Studies (SSS) at the Institute. Our Institute is affiliated with the University of Ilorin and the programme duration is 18 and 36 months respectively.
